Masonite Table Lamp
Lasercut Masonite, Frosted acrylic tube, LED strip lighting

This lamp rose from the unused scraps of my Chinese Steamboat, in which contours of Masonite were layered to create a mold for sand-casting the large aluminum pot.  These discarded scraps that would have never otherwise been given a second thought are employed as the heart of the work, illustrating how easily we overlook and ignore beauty, especially in the peripheral and seemingly insignificant aspects of our lives.

Each piece of Masonite was left unaltered in the construction of the lamp, except to be painted. The tiers of Masonite twist and cantilever outward as the piece rises, with the lighting running up the middle, through holes originally lasercut in the initial fabrication for the sandcasting mold.

This lamp is still a work in progress; please check back for updates.
